How to Deal with your Partner's Depression

Depression is a phase where one lacks his or her self esteem. When one is depressed, he/she is not disappointed with anyone else but themselves, that gradually builds to the state where they are trapped in their own thoughts that make them believe ‘bad luck is all their destiny is...’

This depression does not just kill their personality but acts as a slow poison to kill them too. It leaves its effect all around the person, right from their health to mental stability, which eventually becomes matter of worrying for their dear ones.

Most of the times the person tries to distance him/herself from others because of the belief ‘bad luck is all their destiny is...’  When they try to distance you, if you get apart, they won’t ever get out of the mess of depression and it is when as partner your role comes in.

You need to ensure few simple things

1. Don’t let them skip meals: empty stomach builds circle of negativity, if you can join their dinner table, it will be much better

2. Take silent walk after dinner: words can’t cure things as effectively as your mere presence can do. While walking take their hand in yours, when you have eye contact smile at them. Don’t stretch the situation, behave normally.

3. Discuss the day: before bed, you must have some sort of communication, ‘how was the day’ can be good start for it. If there was something wrong pretend it to be fine, as if nothing like a great loss. Share some romantic moments to cheer them up.

4. Start a day with their smile: insist them to be there when you wake up. Tell them their smile is your lucky charm, and you love to start your day with their smiley face. It will in terms make their day.

5. Make break-fast together: if possible cook together, feed them with your hands, ask them to feed you. Start day with sweet moments.

6. Give 'Good-bye hug': before any of you leave home, give them hug n a soft kiss, wish a good-day, don’t forget to say you will miss them.

7. 'Miss you' messages: if calls can disturb them, send them messages like ’miss you’, ‘love you’. If she has made Tiffin for you, take efforts to call n appreciate it. If you have cooked for him, call to ask if he liked it.

8. Take surprise holiday: to change the mood, holiday is the best option ever. Spend the whole day just two of you. Have long drive, go for movie, share ice-cream and fight like kids for it. Propose them in public, the same way you saw in the movie, take dinner of their choice.

9. Go for shopping: shopping has been proved to release stress, go for it once in awhile, insist to take your favourite colour, give them compliments on the dress they try.

10. Watch their favourite show: to take a break after stressful day, the idiot box can relax you. Watching their favourite show can make them happy. You can play their favourite song, can enjoying dancing on it.

Well, to do all these things don’t wait for your partner to go in depression, practicing these things in routine will act like ‘precaution is better than cure’
