Once I asked my mom, "Which one, in your opinion, is a good girl-
The one who had 'n' number of boyfriends and several relationships, who kept hanging around with them, but after all these affairs, she ditched each one, and got married to the one, chosen by her parents,
Or
The girl who had been with only one guy, she loved him truly, the one who sustained their relationship through all ups and downs with loyalty n honesty and finally she requested parents to accept her choice and let them marry?"
Mom's answer was, "The one who finally married by her parents choice..."
She justified her answer by saying, "No matter what, you should always obey your parents' wish, they will choose the best thing for you, then again if a girl opts for a love marriage, her parents have to face allegations from the society."
The conversation ended abruptly....
And it kept me thinking, does that mean, loyalty in relationships is not important, rather being obedient to your parents for the sake of social esteem is...?
After all these years of sanskar and morality lessons, are we expected to consider society and its norms instead of the principles of trust and love...?
It doesn't matter if we are pure by soul or not, it's completely okay, if we can fake it, isn't it?
I am feeling very sorry for the mentality, we are nurturing in our society.
If we can't be loyal to our loved ones, how will we be loyal to our spouses?
I am neither against arranged marriages, nor am saying that parents don't seek the best interest of their child..
All I want to ask is, "While watching movies or reading novels, we like the love-stories, then why do we get offended by love marriages in real life, when we totally accept that love is a natural and the most divine feeling?"
As parents, you have been giving your children several lessons of values and morals since their childhood...
You educated and enabled them to take right decisions...
You laid down guidelines and principles, which became foundation of their lives...
After all these years of teaching, don't you trust their decisions, their choices..??
Why can't you trust their trust...??
If you can let them take charge of their shopping, their lifestyles, their careers, why not their lives...???
